According to documentation acquired by the media, the Royal Tank Regiment of the United Kingdom, the world’s oldest tank regiment, helped train Ukrainian soldiers fighting in Donbass.
A certificate indicating that Ukrainian serviceman Borys Kazarian had undergone junior sergeant training courses with the assistance of British instructors was discovered by a journalist at Sputnik in the freed city of Volnovakha in the Donetsk Region. Col. M. Evans signed the certificate, which was given by the Royal Tank Regiment.
The records also showed that in 2018, when the participants to the Minsk agreement were attempting to resolve the dispute diplomatically, UK instructors taught Ukrainian forces in the use of weaponry, and London had not yet declared the sale of NLAW anti-tank grenade launchers.
The training took place from October 17th to November 2nd, according to the certificate signed by Col. M. Evans. The training was divided into four sections, according to the certificate: “weapons training”, “navigation”, “medical training” and “pairs movement.” At the same time, London indicated that it will only begin supplying Ukraine with NLAW anti-tank grenade launchers in the first half of 2022.
The UK prime minister’s office stated on Wednesday that the country will equip Ukraine with 6,000 missiles and will set aside 25 million pounds ($33 million) for Kiev’s immediate military requirements.
“The Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce a major new package of support for Ukraine today [Thursday] at the NATO and G7 leaders’ meetings… The measures announced today include 6,000 missiles, consisting of anti-tank and high explosive weapons, and £25 million in financial backing for the Ukrainian military,” the statement said.
It further stated that the volume of such aid “more than doubles” the extent of deadly defense aid delivered thus far to “more than 10,000 missiles,” in addition of the “£400 million the UK has committed” in humanitarian and economic aid to Ukraine.
“The Prime Minister will set out the UK’s intention to work with partners to bolster Ukraine’s defence capabilities, including longer-range targeting and intelligence, as the Ukrainian people face down an unprovoked invasion,” the office said.
On February 24, Russia started a special military operation in Ukraine in reaction to demands for protection from Ukrainian soldiers by the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics. The special military operation, which also targets Ukrainian military facilities, aims to “demilitarize and denazify” Ukraine, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Russia has stated that it has no intention of occupying Ukraine. Numerous severe sanctions have been implemented on Russia by several countries across the world, including those from the West.
